  • C/1BPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - Arizona National Spring Training - 2012 (Pre HS) Zavier is an athletic 2017 graduate who plays C/1B. Behind the plate he has a wide/square setup, firm hands and he deadens the ball/keeps his head down when blocking the ball. He needs to get lower in his setup, quicken feet and be more efficient on his release. As an infielder he displayed sure hands, efficient footwork, he fields out front and he has playable range. He needs to become more aware around the bag, take better angles to the ball and work on picks. At the plate Zavier showed an athletic setup, hands back load, square stride and a short swing path. He needs to be careful he does not lunge at the ball (let it travel into the proper hitting zones), use his lower half more and his timing is late (start sooner). Zavier is a good kid but he is very quiet, it will help his game to be more assertive/aggressive on the field. He has the ability to be successful in the future if he focuses and works on his fundamentals.

12/11/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Ontario, CA Zavier is a young 2-way player with an athletic build. Behind the plate, Zavier has firm hands, playable feet, and he holds a low target. He has some lateral range, his chest is soft when blocking, and he has good direction. Zavier has a loose arm action, and he throws with okay accuracy to 2nd base. At 1st base, Zavier has active feet and decent hands. He has good glove extension, he covers some ground, and he throws with a short / loose arm with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Zavier has an athletic set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has a quiet head, a simple swing, and he makes consistent contact. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Catching
1. Quicken exchange and throw
2. Quicken feet
3. Long toss
Defense
1. Play through more
2. Soften glove
Offense
1. Load / Stride
2. Rhythm / Timing
3. Lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
