01/28/2018 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Zay is a big, strong (61, 190) 2019 SS prospect who can go get it at short. He shows extended range with good speed and quickness to make tough plays in the hole and up the middle. His feet work efficiently to get around the ball, funneling it to center and getting rid of it quickly. He makes good DP feeds and turns with an accurate arm and shows multiple arm angles on the slow roller. At the plate, he shows smooth rhythm to load and launch, working on a short path to the ball with a powerful bat angle. He delivers the barrel consistently and hits a lot of line drives for base hits. Working on keeping his head still will lead to more solid contact moving forward. Zay is a prospect we look forward to watching as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
