01/24/2010 - College PREP - Waipahu, HI Aalona is a young, stocky, athletic player that plays 3B and Catches. In the INF, Aalona has good footwork, hands, and arm action. He has a low approach, good bend, and he fields smoothly. Aalona plays low to high, uses his legs, and throws accurate across the diamond. More aggressiveness and improved lateral range should only help Aalona improve defensively. Behind the plate, Aalona has quick feet, good use of his legs, and a quick transfer. His hands are soft, he is firm receiving, and he works around the ball well. Aalona moves well laterally, tracks the ball well, and deadens the ball softly. Offensively, Aalona has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He stays inside the baseball, has a soft stride, and has a compact swing. Aalona has power into the gaps, and with improved weight transfer, and an earlier load, hitting numbers could further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
