Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Brant showed as two-way player at the event on the mound plus in the OF for the first time. Defensively, his feet are active as he reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He gets a good jump on the baseball and looks comfortable at the position. He needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate, flashing carry. He has a loose arm with an easy motion that works well, but he needs to make sure his elbow does not drop on throws or that his front side does not open too early. He will benefit by staying on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, plus raising velocities. Offensively, he shows a balanced approach allowing his hands to take a direct, short path to the ball. Barrel accuracy is a plus. Brant has strength and has potential power if he can keep his swing short and get his stride foot down consistently quicker. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-80 mph with solid arm side run. This is consistent with what we saw back in August at his filming, so it was good to see similar arm strength in December. He showed a loose arm action and his ball has good action and life on it. Off speed pitches show potential as well as being quality pitches at the next level with further development. Currently, Aaron projects best on the mound for the next level as we like his upside there, but he also has the ability to help a program with his glove and bat.

08/11/2010 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Aaron is a young LHP with an athletic frame that is well suited for his position and shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Delivery is sound, showing proper mechanics but can get more out of his lower half with extension to the plate. Arm slot is low 3/4 with solid movements on his pitches. Arm strength is slightly above average as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more strength, raising velocities. Fastball shows a range of 79-81 mph with solid arm side run. Changeup is best off speed pitch, showing a feel for with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/7 shape with sliderish action. Offensively, Aaron showed a good set up, with a level swing, and direct hands. He needs to let the ball travel and not drop on the outside pitch, but overall, we like his hitting mechanics along with his pitching ability. With 2 years to further develop, Brant has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
