Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

08/09/2010 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Aaron showed well both on the mound and in the INF at his last workout in Dublin, OH. On the mound, Aaron increased his radar velocity from 83 to 85 MPH. He has solid off-speed pitches with A/S run, and the ball jumps out of his hand. Aaron has good direction toward the plate, he repeats his delivery, and he aggressively goes after hitters. If Aaron can lengthen his arm stroke and avoid pulling across his body, mound effectiveness can continue to get better. In the INF, Aaron has life in his feet and he moves well laterally. He makes plays, has a solid exchange, and delivers the ball accurately to his target. Defensive abilities can improve if Aaron can field the ball further out in front of his body, soften his hands, and field in better rhythm. Offensively, Aaron is a strong hitter with quick hands. He has a level swing path, he gets good extension, and he has raw power. Strong hitting numbers can get better if he can avoid diving at the ball and use more lower 1/2.

07/31/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 1 Ramirez was 78-79 with his fastball showing on a downhill plane creating tough angles on hitters. He needs to stay on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. Breaking ball showed a downward action but needs to throws for strikes more. Changeup displayed sinking action. Currently, he projects best on the mound with stock rising quickly as more arm strength is gained.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Aaron continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 83 mph on the mound through a live, quick arm action. He showed a solid average changeup with a decent feel and downward movement. Breaking ball has improved showing near above average while displaying an 11/5 shape with tight spin and late breaking action. He is aggressive as he attacks hitters throwing strikes. He shows a lot of potential on the mound and needs to concentrate his work ethic on the mound, where his future lies.

03/29/2009 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Aaron is a young two-way player on the mound and at 2B with a thin, wiry looking body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best on the mound where he has a live arm. Arm strength is solid average and will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to further develop more arm strength, raising velocities. Delivery is a solid average and needs to get instruction to develop a more repeatable delivery. Command and control is a plus as he is around the plate with all his pitches. Fastball shows sinking action on an average plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late breaking action. He throws a knuckle ball that is solid average, showing hard late action and resembles a split finger. Defensive abilities are slightly above average as he makes plays. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 5.23 40 time. Glove action is late due to his feet stopping as his body breaks down into the fielding position. Glove will show better as he learns to come get and play through the baseball with his feet and hands. At the plate, Ramirez has below average abilities and power. Swing path is level but he has mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential. Hitting grades and power will improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Aaron has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
