06/16/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Sparks continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and projects well as a two-way player at the next level. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 82 mph on the mound and displayed good life and carry on his throws at 1B. Breaking ball is now outstanding displaying tight spin and late break. It is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level. He has improved his delivery, arm action, and control on the mound. At 1B, footwork around the bag is a plus and he is a quality receiver. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Offensively, hitting grades and power numbers now show well above average. He sits in well and displays quick hands that generate bat speed. Swing path gets long due to arm bar created in his load with power showing best to the pull side. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered but needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. At the event, he was 5 for 10 with a 2B. Aaron has solid makeup and plays the game hard. He will be a great addition to a college program.

03/06/2011 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Aaron is a two-way player on the mound as a LHP plus at 1B with a tall, solid frame that is well suited for his positions. Currently, we like him a little more as a 1B for the next level, though he has the potential to be a two way player. Defensively, he is a solid receiver and consistently showed the ability to pick throws out of the dirt. Footwork around the bag is a plus and he shows a feel for the position. Transfer / exchange are clean as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry on throws. Offensively, Sparks continues to shine through an athletic, balanced stance. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through the ball at contact. He shows a feel for the barrel with strength in his swing as the ball jumps off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-80 mph. Off speed pitches need further development to be quality pitches at the next level. Delivery is repeatable. Aaron has a lot of potential, especially at 6'3, 210. He is a good student academically as well.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
