07/30/2017 - National Tryout Plus - River Forest (Chicago), IL AJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Glove action is clean / firm and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through a squared / balance setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

07/29/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 AJ is a lean, athletic SS/RHP who will graduate in 2020. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field, gap to gap. At SS, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach while presenting glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 62-65 mph. Getting on a long toss program will aid in further development on mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 4 years to further develop, AJ has abilities with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
