01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 AJ showed similar skills at the UA Preseason All-America as he did back in Baltimore, 10/09. He is a strong, fast, powerful, OF with good baseball instincts and play skills. AJ managed to shave a little time off of his previous 60 time from 6.70 to 6.68. He goes back on baseballs well and gets in a proper fielding position behind it. He makes plays on balls hit his way and makes good use of the hops. Looser actions and more use of his lower 1/2 should help AJ's ability in the OF to improve. Offensively, AJ has good bat speed and an okay load. He has a good pre-pitch routine, makes solid contact, and shows obvious strength. If AJ can improve his balance, and work the ball to all fields, hitting numbers can get even better.

10/11/2009 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD AJ is a young OF with broad shoulders and a strong looking body that is well suited for his position. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.70 60 time and he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in tracking down balls in the OF through proper routes / angles. He needs to work more in getting behind balls more, playing through with momentum to his target. He has athletic actions displaying solid average defensive abilities in the OF with near above average arm strength. His throws display life, carry, and accuracy. At the plate, Lardo continues to shine, showing near above average abilities with well above average power through an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating plus bat speed with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered as he displays strength in his swing. He takes a hack at the plate. With 2 years to further develop, AJ has an upside with a lot of potential to be a solid player at the collegiate level as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
