04/25/2010 - College PREP - Fort Washington, PA AJ showed similar defensive abilities at the Fort Washington workout and showed improvement at the plate. Defensively, AJ looks the ball in, holds a firm / soft wrist, and he works around the ball. He centers and deadens the ball well when blocking. AJ has a quick release, a good follow through, and an accurate arm to his target. Added arm strength will help abilities continue to improve. Offensively, AJ improved his power grade from 45 to 48 at this workout. He has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. AJ is a strong hitter with quick hands and pull side pop. More use of his lower 1/2 should help his hitting continue to improve.

07/25/2009 - Team One North 2009 AJ shows steady play in his abilities behind and at the plate. Transfer and exchange is solid are he gets rid of the baseball quickly with hands and feet working well together. Receiving and blocking skills will play at the next level. At the plate, he shows a solid setup with a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is solid with baseball jumping off his bat when centered.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 AJ continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.14. He utilizes his quick feet well through the throwing process, gaining ground, in line with his target. Arm strength has improved as his pop times have dropped and show a lot more consistency. Pop times will continue to drop as he quickens up his transfer / exchange through better hand placement. At the plate, hands continue to show well to and through the baseball, displaying gap power. He was 3 for 12 at the event with a 2B and a HR.

05/10/2009 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD AJ is a catcher with a small, strong looking body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is solid average and he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well through the throwing process, gaining ground and working in a direct line. Transfer and exchange are clean and efficient allowing his arm action to work quickly. His throws display life and carry but needs to work on accuracy. Arm strength is near above average and he would benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength to lower pop times. He will control the running game at the next level as indicated by his low pop time of 2.04. Receiving and blocking skills are above average and will play at the next level. Setup is solid allowing him to work his hands around the baseball, displaying a soft action and great view to umpire. He shows off his athletic ability through the blocking process as he gets his body down quickly, centering all balls. At the plate, Vagliani has near above average abilities with solid average power. Stance is square through an athletic looking setup that allows his hands to work quickly and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed. He utilizes his lower half well as the baseball jumps off his bat when centered. AJ has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his baseball abilities behind and at the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
