02/19/2018 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY AJ showed very nice overall improvements in his game since his last workout. He is a solid, 2-way player who projects nicely at 1st base. In the INF, AJ has active feet, soft hands, and he moves very well around the bag. He fields in a low position, has a clean exchange, and gets rid of the ball quickly with accuracy and carry to his target. On the mound, AJ has a clean arm action, a repeatable delivery, and good glove side lead. He gets good extension on his pitches and lands with good direction toward his target. More lower body, extension, and finish will help mound effectiveness improve. Offensively, AJ has a tall set-up, an aggressive swing, and quick hands. He has very good bat speed, a short swing, and makes hard/consistent contact. If AJ can stay tall, loosen body actions, and use more lower body, hitting can further improve.

10/02/2016 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ AJ is a lean LHP/OF who will graduate in 2019. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.29. In the OF, he shows smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he reads balls well off the bat. He is aggressive but will benefit by playing through balls with momentum working to his target. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Working to get stride foot down sooner will aid in improving hitting abilities. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on mound. With 2 years to further develop, AJ has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
