05/30/2010 - College PREP - Springdale (Fayetteville), AR Alan is a tall, athletic, 2-way player that plays 3B and RHP. In the INF, Alan has soft hands and good footwork. He fields from the right, gets rid of the ball quickly, and throws accurate with carry across the diamond. Alan has good athleticism and makes plays at the hot corner. Defensive grades can improve by starting in a lower position, field the ball more out in front of his body, and adding arm strength. On the mound, Alan repeats his delivery and has good glove side lead. He has good arm action, he keeps his arm speed the same with all his pitches, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. More polished mechanics, eyes to his target, and a more consistent release point should help Alan's stock on the mound rise. Offensively, Alan has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He transfers his weight properly, can spray to all fields, and he puts the ball in play. A less violent swing, more lower 1/2, and more square feet should help offensive tool grades improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
