08/11/2008 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Alex is an energetic first baseman that has a tall, lean frame, making him a good target to throw to. Defensively, Alex shows consistency in his fielding skills as he fields the ball deep in his stance. He'll need to add some polish in his footwork around the bag, but he manages to make most of the routine plays. His arm is average and will benefit from a long-toss program. At the plate, Alex displays above average bat speed as well as a line drive approach to hitting. He manages to keep his bat path level to the hitting zone, but he will at times roll his wrist early, causing him to rollover the ball. His hitting ability will improve by allowing the ball to travel more in his stance. Overall, he shows some tools that will develop within the next year and a half, making him a solid college prospect.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
