06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Alex continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities at 3B and on the mound. He works to square balls up and makes the routine plays, displaying clean hands but needs to play through more, improve foot quickness and present hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach with hands working through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with fading action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

03/09/2013 - College PREP - Kenosha, WI Alex is a tall, athletic, 2-way player who Pitches and plays 3B. On the mound, Alex has a sound arm action, a controlled balance point, and level shoulders. He has good direction toward home, his off-speed are solid, and he is in the zone with his pitches. More front side, not landing closed, and a better finish will improve mound effectiveness. At 3B, Alex has good energy, playable feet, and he plays through the ball. He has a short arm action to his target, and can improve by playing lower, not stabbing, and added arm strength. At the plate, Alex has a square set-up, good balance, and solid timing. He puts the bat on the ball and uses some lower 1/2. A less shouldery swing, more bat speed, and improved barrel accuracy will raise hitting numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
