08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Alex is an athletic RHP/SS with quick twitch muscles that will graduate in 2015. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.31 60 time. Defensively, his feet are active as he attacks and square balls up, displaying clean hands and a quick release. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to present hands more out front and play a little lower to the ground. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, his stance is athletic with balance / rhythm. He loads well and displays quick hands that work through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Continuing to work on developing a softer stride and getting better extension with his top hand will help his hitting grades to improve. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-85 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with slight break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with fading action. Control is a solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He has on time separation and is in line towards his target while working fast. Working to not rush through his balance point, finishing better, and getting better extension with his lead arm are areas to work on. He pitched well during his game for 3 innings, and was very athletic off the mound. We like him at both positions but currently think Alex projects best as a pitcher. His mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Alex has abilities and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
