Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHPPosition Projection

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Alex was extremely impressive at the Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament. He was in complete control on the mound, pounding the strike zone and keeping hitters off balance. His fastball has occasional cut and topped out at 86mph. He complemented that with two quality off-speed offerings - a downer curveball and a sinking change. Both of those pitches predominantly produced a swing-and-miss or weak contact. His delivery is repeatable and deceptive, with his fastball getting on hitters quickly. As a position player, Alex shows his athleticism in the outfield and a line drive stroke at the plate. He uses the whole field well and has a patient approach. Overall, Alex has big upside on the mound and is going to get a lot of attention as a LHP over the next few years.

07/29/2012 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament London continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, especially in the OF. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.40. Defensive grade in the OF has improved as well as he utilizes his quick feet in tracking down balls in the OF. He works to get behind and plays through well as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws displays life, accuracy, and on line carry to his target. At the plate, Alex continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through the ball at contact, creating extension. For hitting grades to continue to improve he needs to work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power is best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with a solid breaking ball that flashes potential as a quality pitch at the next level.

06/17/2012 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Alex is a tall, lanky LHP/OF that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best on the mound where he an upside. Delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / free to the plate. He works through a strong balance point with on time separation and tempo. Fastball shows a range of 82-83 with arm side run. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch, displaying a 2/8 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a solid feel for with arm side run. He attacks hitter as he throws strikes with all his pitches. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls while displaying clean / sure hands. He needs to work on getting behind balls more to improve defensive grade. At the plate, London shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields and improve hitting grade. With 3 years to further develop, Alex has the makings to be a solid collegiate player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
