06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Wood showed as an OF/RHP at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.41. He utilizes his quick feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles but needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through and improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach and loads well. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and plays hard.
