11/11/2012 - College PREP - Fresno, CA Allan is a tall, lanky RHP/1B that will graduate in 2013 and has a solid frame suited for the mound. Currently, he projects slightly better on the mound but has a lot of potential at 1B. Delivery is sound / repeatable through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work long / loose to the plate through an over the top slot. Fastball shows a range of 81-83 mph with solid arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late / sharp break. He throws a slider with tight spin and short / sharp break. Off speed pitches show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean / sure and he consistently shows the ability to consistently pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. He needs to attack ground balls more, playing through to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Winans continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off his bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. He needs stay inside the baseball to utilize all fields while using his lower half more efficiently to continue to improve hitting / power numbers. Allan as a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.
