Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and very coachable.

07/30/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Alonzo continues to show plus abilities behind the plate with the makings of a solid catcher at the next level but has improved his abilities on the mound and at the plate. Hitting grades are now well above average as he generates plus bat speed to and through a level swing path. He has leverage in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 6 for 11 with a 2B. Behind the plate, pop times were in the low 2.00 range with accuracy and carry on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills are outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 78 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program, throws more strikes, develops better off speed stuff. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a leader behind the plate, is very coachable, and has the tools to succeed at the next level.

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Alonzo is a high energy player that is hard working, is very coachable, and loves to play the game. He continues to show as a C/RHP but currently projects best behind the plate for the next level where he has improved his abilities. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 2.15 range with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he continues to increase foot quickness and builds more arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate shows an athletic setup and tracks the ball well. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 2 for 6. On the mound, arm fastball showed a range of 72-73 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with sharp breaking action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. 07/24/2013 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 14-18) Perez continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing solid average hitting / power grades through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Behind the plate, pop times where in the 2.20 range and displayed solid receiving / blocking skills that will play well at the next level. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-77 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late depth. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with fading action. Off speed pitches show as quality pitch for the next level. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.

06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Alonzo continues to develop behind and at the plate as well as on the mound. As a C, he has an athletic set up with good flexibility in his lower half, a low target and strong wrists to catch and hold the pitch. He will benefit from getting his fingers to the outside of the ball to catch it clean, being on time to block with good anticipation pre-pitch and maintaining focus from pitch to pitch to eliminate unnecessary drops. He has fluid footwork, a throwing arm that produces accurate results with carry and should continue to be more open to making adjustments and trying new things. On the mound, Alonzo showed the ability to change speeds while pitching to contact, threw 3 pitches for strikes and an easy repeatable motion with sound mechanics. He gets a little 'herky jerky' at times, needs more glove side pull and should continue to work on keeping his hip on his target with aggressive in line drive. He has a loose arm and advanced feel so continuing to get better will happen with age and effort. At the plate, Alonzo is a contact hitter with the potential to be a line drive kind of guy. He has a level path with some extension will see the quality of his contact improve as he simplifies his swing and keeps his weight back with a soft stride. He has good rhythm, natural instincts and will benefit from continued work on his stride to shorten, soften and straiten for best results. Overall, Alonzo has a lot of ability and needs to continue to develop as a leader through good communication, good body language and consistent focus, with these things he has a chance to be a special kind of player.

04/21/2013 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Alonzo is a young talented C/RHP. Behind the plate he shows plus arm strength with his pop times ranging from 2.02-2.35. Times will continue to improve as he works on staying low. His footwork is fluid and is quick to his knees when blocking, focus on lateral movement to see an increase in blocking skills. Receiving skills are above average with good sway, while doing a good job sticking pitches. Overall fielding position should be a bit lower. On the mound, Alonzo shows a loose are action with good extension. He reaches a good balance point with on time separation and a square sound landing. He attacks the zone but has the tendency to miss up in the zone. If he can work on reaching a more complete finish, his pitches should work down in the zone. At the plate, Alonzo displays a good load with a solid lower half. Swing path is on plane but can work on more top hand to help deliver the barrel. Rhythm and timing are fluid with smooth actions. Overall, Alonzo is a young player who shows a great amount of talent and should be a special player at the next level as he physically matures.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
