Official Scouting Report

  • OF/SSPosition Projection

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Hohman continues to show at a SS/OF but projects slightly better in the OF for the next. Feet are quick, active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and displays range in the OF. At SS, he works to square balls up and displays clean hands through a low approach. For fielding grades to continue to improve, he needs to play through balls more and present hands more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved now showing slightly above average abilities through a balanced setup. Hands are loose working through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more and add overall body strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/16/2012 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI Andrew is a two-way player that plays SS/OF. In the infield, his arm action is short with a clean quick exchange. His feet are active with an aggressive approach on routine balls, fielding position is low and athletic working from the ground up. Infield grades will improve by presenting his glove earlier and out in front of his body. He can also focus on fielding on the left side of his body, which will help him play through the ball better. In the outfield, Andrew displays the proper routes/angles, his throws are consistent, and he does a good job following his throws. He can continue to work on staying behind flyballs and work on building more arm strength through long toss. At the plate, Andrew has an athletic setup with a short load and solid balance. He does a good job staying connected with his lower and upper body with the ability to spray the ball to all fields. With another year to develop before graduating high school, Andrew shows good athleticism and will benefit by working on his fundamentals in the field to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
