07/29/2008 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2008 Nichols has improved his game at the plate since the last time we saw him. He showed good bat speed and an aggressive approach at the plate. He battled in almost every at bat and has great hands. I would like to see him improve his lower half actions and use a bit more load. I think he has some upside left on the offensive side of the plate. He needs to work on improving his overall body strength to maximize his game. On defense he is consistent. He works best when he squares to the ball and has a good low exchange with a quick release. Nichols needs to clean up his footwork some and focus on his angles to each ground ball. His arm strength is best suited for second base at the next level.

05/11/2008 - College PREP - Olympia, WA Andrew is a smaller player but he has athleticism. At SS, Andrew shows range and the ability to play through the ball. He has good footwork when turning the double play. He might want to consider a move to 2B to compliment arm strength, but he has sure hands and hustles everywhere. At the plate, Andrew is direct to the ball and displays a solid level swing. He needs more explosion from his lower half which will increase power. Andrew's swing has sound mechanics for the most part and should get better as he gets stronger.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
