Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/3BPosition Projection

06/27/2010 - Team One South 2010 Andy showed good improvements in his game at the Team One South Showcase. He improved his arm and fielding grades and currently projects as an impact player at the next level. Defensively, Andy has loose, athletic actions and solid hands. He is light on his feet, he presents his glove well, and he fields the ball out in front of his body. Andy uses good footwork when throwing, and has good life and carry on his throws. At the plate, Andy has good balance and quick hands. He has good bat speed and good feel for the pull side. A shorter stroke, and more direct hands to the ball should help solid offensive numbers become even better.

06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Andy showed similar skills in Omaha as he did at his workout in North Cobb. In the INF, Andy has active feet and he moves well around the bag. He is an aggressive fielder, he wants the ball, and he makes plays. Andy has a good arm action, arm speed, and he delivers the ball accurately to his target. If Andy can soften his hands, and use more lower 1/2 when throwing, defensive abilities can further improve. On the mound, Andy has an easy arm action and sound mechanics. He has good athleticism on the mound, competes in the strike zone, and attacks hitter. Added arm strength and speed, along with more development should help Andy's mound effectiveness further improve. Offensively, Andy has a good approach and good plate discipline. He has good bat speed, and can work the ball gap to gap. A looser, more involved backside will only help offensive grades get better.

06/06/2010 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Andy is a corner infielder with a lot of potential and a tall, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get, playing through the baseball. Glove action is clean and sure as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Foot work around the bag is a plus as he recovers well. Hands and feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly with throws displaying life, carry across the diamond. Offensively is where Walfred shows best through an aggressive approach. He has leverage and strength in his swing as he hits 2 irons to the pull side. Hands are quick, generating bat speed but swing path gets long due to an arm bar created in his load. The baseball explodes off his bat when centered as he will hit for power. Andy has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, especially at the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
