11/01/2015 - College PREP - Midland, TX Anthony continues to work hard on his skills. With the bat, this RH swinger has a balanced setup with a solid base. Barrel delivery is quick as he jumps on pitches his likes, squaring the ball up and driving it on a line back up the middle of the field. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. At the hot corner, Anthony has quick footwork and moves well to his glove-side. He funnels smoothy with a quick/clean exchange to throw. Continuing to develop his footwork will increase his lateral range. On the bump, this RHP has 3 pitches in which he fills up the zone with. FB now tops out at 76 mph while showing slight tail. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with good action. He stays directional and repeats his delivery well. Only a 2018 grad - Avila is a hard worker who still has time to develop.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Anthony is a young SS/RHP that will graduate in 2018. In the MIF, feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the plays. He moves well laterally, flashing range. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and play through balls more while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows an athletic / squared setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and let the ball travel more. Power numbers will improve as he learns to load more and use his lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 65-67 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, work to throw more strikes, and develops off speed pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Anthony has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
