Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Anthony continued to show progress in his baseball abilities and showed well at the UA Preseason All-America. At 1B, Anthony is a big target who moves around the bag well for his size. He makes plays on balls hit his way and has a strong / accurate arm. Lighter feet and softer hands will help Anthony improve defensively at 1B. On the mound, Anthony has good mound presence and pitchability. He has a high 3/4 arm slot and creates a downhill throwing plane. Anthony has good balance, direction toward the plate, and good extension with his pitches. His delivery is in rhythm, he works both sides of the plate, and he throws a lot of strikes. Anthony can further improve on the hill if he can avoid falling off to the 1st base side. Offensively, Anthony is a strong / powerful hitter with good barrel accuracy. He has power in his bat, and with a shorter stroke and quicker bat, hitting and power could get even better.

10/14/2009 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2009 Anthony is a big, strong kid who shows as a two-way player on the mound and at 1B. He moves especially well for a man his size around the bag. Good pre-pitch preparation and soft, sure hands with excellent fielding position displays near above average defensive abilities at 1B. He shows solid foot work around the bag and throws have solid carry displaying above average arm strength. As a hitter, Anthony continues to shine displaying above average abilities with well above average power through a good bat path with plus bat speed. He has a big, powerful stroke that can drive the baseball showing a plus feel for the barrel as he shows big-time power potential on the next level. Needs to work on making sure he gets his front foot down a bit earlier before hands fire, currently steps to hit. He was 4 for 10 with 2B at the event. On the mound, Anthony is balanced and shows good rhythm. Over the top delivery that works on a good downward plane creating tough angles on hitters. He needs to work on getting full extension out front and not cutting himself off. Fastball shows a range of 81-83 mph with sinking action. Split finger is his best off speed pitch showing a solid feel for with sinking action. Slider has tight spin with short break. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well. Overall, Gianelli is a very interesting prospect that in the right program can be a two way player. We feel like Anthony's defensive/hitting abilities are slightly ahead of his pitching at the moment. The kid has div. I potential.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
