06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Antonio only showed in the OF at the event and improved his foot speed. He ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average at 7.13. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 4 for 10 with a 2B. He shows a great baseball IQ and plays the game hard.

04/09/2017 - College PREP - Louisville, KY Antonio showed as a catcher and in the OF for the first time and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.38. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are firm and he sticks balls in the zone but will benefit by letting the ball travel more. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work on getting down sooner. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will continue to improve as he continues to increase foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. He stays inside the baseball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

08/04/2016 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Antonio is an athletic catching prospect with contagious energy and great leadership on the field. He is like a cannon shot out of the batter's box, busting it down the line to turn routine plays into base hits. He has a balanced stance at the dish, getting his hands loaded with a powerful bat angle. He incorporates his lower half well to generate power and bat speed through the zone to make solid contact to all fields. Behind the plate, this prospect smothers balls in the dirt with active feet to slide and a low setup to get down quickly. He looks the ball in well to receive and works hard behind the plate to help out his pitchers. A long toss program will increase arm strength and lower his pop times. We look forward to watching Antonio continue to progress.

03/13/2016 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Antonio is a lean catcher who will graduate in 2018. Behind the plate, feet are active / quick in working in line to his target. Pop times showed in the 2.39 range through a clean transfer / exchange with accuracy on his throws. Gaining more arm strength (long toss) will aid in lowering pop times. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hands are quick, working to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact and uses the middle of the field well. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Antonio has abilities with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
