01/20/2020 - Interactive Video Program - Bradenton (Tampa), FL Austen is a young catcher with solid all around skills. Behind the plate, Austen has active feet, firm hands, and he covers ground well. He tracks to his glove, tries hard when blocking, and throws with a quick/accurate arm to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.42 seconds. Offensively, Austen has an open stance, he loads well, and has a direct swing path. He swings on plane, hits with strength to the pull side, and he uses his lower body. Austen can continue to improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
