09/12/2010 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Austin is a two-way player at SS plus on the mound with a thin, athletic body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level. Delivery is repeatable as he shows sound mechanics as he works quickly to the plate. Arm strength is a plus as he topped out at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 83-84 mph with arm side run and solid hard sink on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape, tight spins but is inconsistent with his release point. Changeup is average creating some backspin. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well. At SS, feet are active as he works around, playing through ground balls with his body. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws show carry and accuracy across the diamond. Offensively, Ales shows a balanced approach as he makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. Austin has an upside on the mound and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
