12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Austin is a young (2013) catcher with an athletic body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is near average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active in working in line to his target but needs to work on speeding up his transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.21-2.40 with a means of 2.34. Throws are accurate but must get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry. He shows a solid setup that allows him to be a quality receiver and shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he keeps all balls in front. Offensively, Barrett shows a balanced approach that allows his hands to work directly to the ball. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed but needs to keep barrel through the baseball at contact to create extension. He is patient at the plate and makes pitchers work. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with a 2B. With 3 years to further develop, Austin has a lot of potential with the makings to be a solid player as he continues to improve.
