12/06/2009 - College PREP - McCook, IL Austin is a young OF with a small frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is slightly above average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Defensive abilities and arm strength are average in the OF as he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. At the plate, Dewey has slightly above average abilities and power through a balanced approach. He uses the middle of the field and will go the other way but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Austin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
