01/09/2011 - College PREP - Jacksonville, FL Austin is a catcher with a strong, athletic body that is well suited for his position. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.31 60 time. Feet are active working in line with his target as he gains ground. Transfer / exchange is clean and efficient with pop times showing a range of 2.10-2.30. Throws are accurate but needs to get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and lowering pop times. Receiving skills are solid as he displays strong hands through a solid setup. He gets his body down and around balls in the dirt but needs to work on covering all holes. Offensively, Harden shows a balanced setup and makes consistent contact. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. Austin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
