01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Austin is a well built C/RHP at 6'3/200 lbs that performed very well at the Under Armour Baseball Factory Pre-Season All America Tournament. Offensively, he used his lower half to generate strong bat speed and hit to all fields. He was loose with his actions and got extended out in front. Behind the plate, he received with a firm glove and pocket awareness, and threw in the 1.9 - 2.0 range to second. He anticipated to block and used his big frame to deaden the ball in front. On the hill, he commanded his fastball on both sides of the plate, spun an 11/5 CB, and showed feel for a CH. He was aggressive to establish his FB, and kept his eyes on the target to throw his off-speed pitches around the zone. All in all - Austin still has another year to add consistency to his game for the next level.

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Austin is a skilled 2-way player (C/RHP) who put his talents on display in Omaha. On the mound, this RHP has a 4-pitch arsenal coming from a repeatable delivery and free arm-action. He pounds the zone throwing strikes and gives his defense a chance. FB ranges from 79-82 mph while showing some arm-side run. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape as he throws it with FB arm-speed, mixing it in well. He works quickly to the plate and has some good pick-off moves. He is athletic and fields the position well. Behind the dish, Austin sits in well with a strong base. He is quick around pitches in the dirt, deadening them off of his chest. Throws down to 2B are on the money, getting there in 2.10. With the bat, this RHH shows smooth rhythm working back into a strong loaded position. He remains selective, waiting for his pitch. Swinging with more aggression will help to increase power at the plate. A hard worker - Austin should find success on the diamond.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
