03/21/2010 - College PREP - Austin, TX Austin is a catcher with a solid, athletic looking frame that is well suited for his position. Feet are quick and active in working in line, displaying proper direction to his target, working low to high. Transfer / exchange are quick and efficient into a loose, easy arm action. Throws show life, carry, and accuracy as he shows a pop time range of 2.02-2.15 with a means of 2.07. Receiving and blocking skills show flashes of being quality tools with further development. Offensively, Holbrook continues to shine through a solid setup and approach. He stays closed, utilizes lower half well as his quick hands work directly to the baseball, displaying bat speed. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered as he has future power potential as he keeps hands through the baseball, displaying extension. He had a solid workout in tough weather conditions with 40 degree temperatures and 15 mph winds. Austin has a lot of potential abilities and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he improves.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
