12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Hornick continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.05. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills are outstanding, showing as a quality tools that will play well at the next level. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program to continue to lower pop times. At the plate, Austin shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He tracks the ball and shows a good eye at the plate. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more through the swing. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays hard and is a leader behind the plate.
