06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Austin is an OF that will graduate in 2014. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work on getting behind balls more, playing through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Jones shows a balanced approach. Hands are loose and work through a short / direct swing path. He works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 2 for 8. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be. Austin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
