01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 March continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and now shows as a class 4 type player in the OF. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.92 runner. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles in tracking down balls in the OF. Offensively, hitting grades are now well above average through an aggressive approach. He shows a solid feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered as he displays extension. At the event, he was 6 for 7 with 3B and 2 RBI. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he topped out at 83 mph but projects best in the OF for the next level.

06/14/2009 - College PREP - Oakland, CA Austin is an OF/LHP who brings an average high school build to the diamond. In the OF, Austin has good feet allowing him to roam, he gets behind the fly ball nicely, and shows good rotation on the baseball along with life in his arm. He would benefit from developing more pre-pitch movement, which would allow him to get even more range. On the mound, Austin shows smooth rhythmic arm action, he has great balance throughout his delivery, and lands direct to his target. Even though he lands direct, he would benefit from finishing through his target rather than flying off. At the plate, March flashes a balanced stance; he loads his hands and throws hips for good power, and attacks the ball with aggression. He would make himself an even better hitter by staying inside the ball to hit more to all fields, and by throwing his top hand more consistently, which would eliminate his tendency to lift the ball.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
