Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

10/24/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Austin is a 2B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. In the field, Austin takes good angles and gets into a square position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and has a clean exchange, making consistent throws to his target. Working on his footwork can help Austin field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and drives through well with his lower half, spraying the ball to all fields. Austin can barrel up more baseballs by working through a shorter swing path. On the mound, Austin gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and finishes with a controlled landing. Austin operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 57-63mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 60-63mph with sinking action. Striding square toward the plate can help Austin improve his pitch command. Overall, Austin is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Austin is a 2B/OF who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame thin build with strength present room to add more strength. At 2B, he shows good rhythm to his actions and active/efficient footwork. Creates good fielding angles and ability to play through the ball. Fields from a low and athletic fielding position, with sure hands, and a good glove angle. Loose arm action into a 3/4 arm release point. Showed good touch on his DP feeds and 2 hand exchange on his DP pivot. Accurate/on-line throws across diamond and an arm velocity of 75mph. A right-handed hitter begins with an athletic and open stance. Direct barrel path enables him to attack the inside pitch. Showed ability to get the barrel out front and hit line drives to all fields. Reached base 4 times, with an RBI, and a bat exit velocity of 78mph in live game action. With continued growth and development, we can see him having opportunities to play at the next level.

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Austin continues to shine on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

01/17/2020 - Baseball Factory's Spring Training Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting abilities has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 3 for 6. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/22/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Roseville (Minneapolis), MN Austin is a tall, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and OF. In the INF, Austin has active feet, he covers ground, and fields in a square position. He makes plays, flashes a solid backhand, and has a short/accurate arm across the diamond. In the OF, Austin has a presentable glove, he tracks well, and makes the routine plays on balls hit his way. He gathers himself properly, and throws with accuracy and consistency to his cut off man. At the plate, Austin has a tall stance, he loads his hands well, and he stands in with balance. He has a consistent/direct barrel and he makes square contact. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
