06/20/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Austin continues to show steady improve in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has really improved as he cut 3 tenths off his 60 time, now a 7.84 and will benefit by staying on a speed / agility program to continue to develop foot quickness at the next level. Defensive abilities have improved as he is a soft receiver at 1B. At the plate, Nabors showed good discipline with a solid eye as he drew 5 BB at the event. He shows a strong presence with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered with a lot of potential but has some flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential. Hitting grades will improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he topped out at 82 mph. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength.

02/01/2009 - College PREP - Mobile, AL Austin is a two way player on the mound and at 1B with a tall, large frame that shows projection as it continues to firm and mature. Foot speed is below average and needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot speed for the next level. He needs to utilize his feet more in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. Glove action is presented well but gets deep allowing the ball to dictate play due to feet stopping on approach. He shows solid feeds on the turn of the double play. Defensive abilities are average. Arm strength is solid average showing carry across the diamond but needs to get on a strict long toss program to further aid in developing more arm strength and raise velocities. At the plate, Nabors has slightly above average ability with near above average power. Bat speed is present and shows a solid feel for the barrel to the pull side. He has strength in his swing with power numbers improving as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, delivery is solid showing on time separation and in line direction through loose actions. Fastball is flat and shows on one plane. Breaking ball is slightly average displaying an 11/5 shape with loose spin. Changeup is below average and needs work. Austin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
