07/18/2024 - Baseball Factory National World Series at JRTC Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.32 runner. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity of 60 mph. The breaking ball has an 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds further arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows a squared setup, quick hands, and an on-plane swing through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. In the OF, he takes good first steps in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are active as he works behind ball and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness well in covering a lot of ground. He is very coachable and dedicated, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a commitment to continuous improvement.

04/07/2024 - National Showcase - Charlottesville, VA Austin is a thin, lean OF/RHP who will graduate in 2028. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. In the OF, he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 57-59 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is solid as the throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Austin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
