06/15/2023 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Austin is a lean OF/LHP who will graduate in 2024. In the OF, he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness (6.96 60 time) in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Austin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

12/28/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Windsor (Madison), WI Austin is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who pitches and plays OF. On the mound, Austin stands over the rubber well, he separates on time, and uses his lower body. He keeps his head on target, lands with good direction, and is around the zone with his pitches. In the OF, Austin has good pre-pitch actions, he gives solid effort to the ball, and he takes proper angles. He makes the routine plays and has some accuracy to his cut-off man. At the plate, Austin has a tall/open stance, he stays inside the ball, and swings in good rhythm. He is short to the ball, has a middle of the field approach, and makes square/consistent contact. Austin can improve his abilities with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
