11/13/2016 - College PREP - Davie, FL Austin is a lean catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a quick / clean transfer exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.21-2.30 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. He tracks balls well, displaying a soft glove and is quick to recover through the blocking process. Blocking skills are outstanding. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Austin has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
