01/31/2016 - College PREP - Myrtle Beach, SC Austin only showed as a catcher at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. At the plate, hitting / power abilities have really improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Behind the plate, he threw his lowest pop time to date at 2.01 with carry on his throws, displaying outstanding arm strength+. He shows off his athletic abilities through his blocking / receiving skills, displaying tools that will play at the next level.

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Austin is a lean 2018 C/RHP with a great feel for the game. Behind the dish, he communicates well with great energy and intensity. He managed the running game and called quality pitches. He blocks everything out in front with lateral range. His times will increase with agility work and continued work on arm strength. On the mound, Austin shows command of all 3 pitches with composure at all times. His ability to work downhill and pound the knees makes him a tough arm to face in any rotation., evident of his 1 hit in 2 innings of play. As he continues to stay relaxed and develop arm strength, his velo will rise. As a RHH, he hits from a square stance with a mature approach in the box. His smooth tempo and rhythmic hands keep him relaxed as he fires his hands directly through the zone with great extension. Austin is a young player that has shows a promising future with his current tools and hard working mentality.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
