08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Austin showed at 2B and on the mound for the first time at the event. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and works inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. He stays on plane through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-70 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a great team player.

03/12/2017 - College PREP - Voorhees (Philadelphia), NJ Austin is a lean, athletic 2B who will graduate in 2019. In the MIF, feet are active as he works to square balls up. Glove action is clean and he presents well out front. He works around balls and plays through with his body, displaying proper footwork. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are quick and work through a direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. With 2 years to further develop, Austin has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
