01/24/2010 - College PREP - Loch Sheldrake, NY Austin is a two-way player in the OF plus on the mound with an athletic frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in working to get behind the ball to play through with momentum to his target. Range will improve as more foot speed is developed. Throws show accuracy through a short arm action as he will benefit from a long toss program. Offensively, Rosen shows a level swing path as he works to keep hands inside the ball utilizing all fields. He starts open and stays open causing him to spin off some pitches as he will benefit by squaring up stance. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-74 mph with average to near average off speed pitches that need further development to be quality pitches. Austin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
