08/04/2010 - College Prep Super Regional - Middletown, CT - AM Austin is an athletic, 2-way player that plays OF and 3B. He currently projects better in the OF as he approaches his Senior year. Defensively, Austin has good footwork, he works behind the ball well, and he plays through. He has a quick exchange and delivers the ball with accuracy and carry to his target. Austin can improve in the OF if he can use 2 hands, avoid extra steps, and add arm strength. In the INF, Austin makes plays on balls hit his way and gets good momentum toward 1st base. He has a soft backhand and throws accurately across the diamond. Austin will need to get his glove down sooner and field the ball further out in front of his body to improve in the INF. At the plate, Austin has okay balance, a relaxed approach, and a quiet head. He has a level swing and can spray the ball to all fields. Hitting can get better with quicker hands, added bat speed, and better use of his lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
