03/17/2024 - National Showcase - Greenville, SC Austin showed as a top prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.69 runner. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, deadening balls well out front. Pop times showed in 2.03 range with accuracy / carry (85 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, power potential is now well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Overall, Austin is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

07/28/2023 - Baseball Factory National World Series at JRTC (HS) Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.01 with accuracy / carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall, squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate and is very coachable on the field.

07/10/2023 - National Showcase - Greenville, SC Austin is a lean, athletic catcher who is a prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in 2.06 range with accuracy / carry (81 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a lien drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. With 2 years to further develop, Austin has potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
