06/03/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Austin continues to show a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he tracks proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Transfer exchange is smooth as he zips throws on a line through his target. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. A RHH - he stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick with aggression (85 mph exit velocity) as he connects with power driving the ball with pop showing best to the pull side.

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Austin is a 2018 OF with a projectable frame (6'1", 215 lbs). In the field, Austin shows good preparation and takes good angels to the ball. He gets into a low position and presents his hands out front to field the ball. He has a clean exchange to throw and keeps his throws consistent to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and shows good balance in the box. He shows smooth movements and a level swing which leads to consistent contact. Overall, Austin has the tools that will provide success in this his junior year.

06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Austin is a true talent who is fun to watch. A RHH - he stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick with aggression as he connects with power (85 mph exit velocity) driving all parts of the field. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Transfer exchange is smooth as he zips throws on a line through his target. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. Austin has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Austin competed with strengths offensively and defensively with his 6'1/215 lbs frame at his most recent Factory outing. Defensively, he made plays with a soft/sure glove, getting to his fielding position on-time. He kept his body controlled behind the catch and had a clean exchange to throw with momentum to his targets. Offensively, he displayed present pop with strength through the zone and extension. He kept his head still and tracked the ball with quiet eyes for plus barrel accuracy. Overall - Austin is a very projectable sophomore that already possesses some next level tools and still has three high school seasons.

12/06/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Sacramento, CA Austin continues to show well on the diamond. This athletic OF works lightly on the balls of his feet and covers ground with speed. He secures the ball with soft/sure hands and has a quick/clean exchange to throw. Offensively, Austin steps into the box with a purpose. He gets back into a strong loaded position and maintains centered balance. He hits the ball where it's pitched and engages his lower 1/2 well throughout the swing. Watters has upside and will make an impact when he steps onto the field.

07/22/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Austin (6'0"/200) continues to show well on the diamond. Defensively in the OF, he takes solid routes and works into position behind the fly-ball. He comes to get the GB playing through it aggressively with a quick/clean exchange to throw. Gaining more ground with a crow-hop and using his legs more, will help to get more into his throws. At the plate, Watters shows a square setup with a solid base. He swings against a firm front side, locking out his front leg helping to create torque from his backside. Continuing to engage and drive his lower 1/2 more aggressively will increase pop off of his barrel. Austin is a coachable player who works hard on his skills. Only a 2018 grad - this projectable athlete still has a ton of time to progress.

04/19/2015 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Austin is a talented R/R OF prospect who can swing it. With the bat, this righty shows a closed stance with good balance. He jumps of pitches in the zone, engages his lower 1/2 and generates serious pop off of his barrel. He has the ability to drives the ball out of the park and will fit nicely in the middle of a line-up where he will drive in runs. Defensively, he puts his athleticism on display taking fluid routes/angles to the fly-ball. He gathers well and has a quick/clean exchange to throw, putting the ball in his target's chest. Continuing to develop his foot speed will allow him to cover more ground in the OF and will help his stock to rise. This 2018 grad is one to keep an eye on over the next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
