06/25/2017 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.13. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared setup with balance. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry to his target. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/27/2016 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Austin is a thick, strong OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.24. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level / aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and works to stay inside the ball, flashing gap to gap pop. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Working to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target will aid in improving defensive abilities. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Austin has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
