06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Avery continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.26. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works around balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength and sprays the ball to all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.
