Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

08/27/2023 - National Showcase - Kansas City, KS Avery is a 5ft 10/150 2B/RHP in the 2025 class. In the field, he has great pre-pitch actions with active feet. Shows range and covers his defensive zone well. Redirect the baseball with clean actions and his arm fits the position well. Is accurate with on-line feeds. Working to gain more ground and sink his hips will help to read his hop. On the mound, he operates with a 3-pitch mix from a high 3 qtr. Slot. His FB sat 69-70 and was around the zone. His CB has 11-5 shape with depth. His Ch ranged 63-5 and sinks down in the zone. At the plate, he has a quiet and simple set-up. Stays square to the dish and balance is inside his feet. Displays a short path and can square the back of the baseball for line drive production. Overall, Avery has solid starting points to become a great 2025 prospect.

11/11/2021 - Baseball Factory Fall Select Tournament at Pirate City Avery continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At 2B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball and utilizes all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing and he shows a feel for the barrel. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Fastball shows a range of 61-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

09/26/2021 - All-In Membership - Lansing, KS Avery is a 2B/RHP who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame lean build with some strength present and room to add throughout. In the infield, he starts with a good prep step and takes aggressive routes to ground balls. He plays with good effort and energy. Has a clean exchange and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with arm velocity up to 67mph. On the mound, he gets to a good balance point and works with good direction down the mound. Has good tempo to his delivery and separates his hands on time. He throws a FB that sits 60-63mph, a 10/4 shaped breaking ball with early break, and a developing changeup that he throws with FB arm speed. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and open stance. Has good rhythm to his swing and keeps his barrel in the hitting zone a long time. He gets on-plane early and has a high finish. He made square contact to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 69mph. With 4 years of continued growth and development, we see this 2-way prospect having a bright future on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
