02/19/2024 - National Showcase - Gambrills, MD Avery is a 2026 1B out of Edgewater, MD. At 1B, he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around ball and squares up. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft and presents out front. He moves well laterally and utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

11/02/2023 - Baseball Factory Fall Select Tournament at JRTC Avery is a 6ft/180 1B in the 2026 class out of Edgewater, MD. He's coachable and a team player. In the field, he shows plus posture and smooth actions. He covers his defensive zone well and has an awareness of his defensive responsibilities. Has long levers and shows agility in his attack angles. Has pocket awareness and transitions the baseball with clean actions. Body is in sync with his release. By working to stay in his legs, it will allow him to generate more force on his throws. At the plate, he begins in a tall and squared stance with low hands. His load phase is controllable, and he gets the barrel through the zone at 80 velo. Can work the backside of the field and working to engage his lower half will allow for deeper carry on the baseball. Had a solid strike zone awareness on the weekend by drawing 3 BB’s. Scouts loved his improvement and feel he is headed on the right path.

08/13/2023 - National Showcase - Bowie, MD Avery is a 1B who will graduate in 2026. At the plate is where he shows displaying solid hitting/power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Avery has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
