04/02/2023 - National Showcase - Visalia, CA Ayden Vasquez is a 2026 SS/C that is projectable at both positions. He showed improvements at both catcher and shortstop, lowering his pop time to an impressive 1.89. At SS, he shows good footwork and consistent hands while making strong and accurate throws. He works through the baseball and makes the right read on inbetween hops. Ayden also increased his arm velo to 81 which is a good jump from the last time we saw him. Along with his pop time, his receiving and blocking also improved. Getting stronger will help him work through the baseball while receiving a little more. He has plenty of time to continue on the great path of development and improvement that he is currently on. One thing that will be important to work on to stay at the SS position is speed. Lowering his 60 time to a 7.82 is a good sign for that trending in the right direction. On the hitting side of things, Ayden shows good bat speed and consistent barrel delivery. Creating a little more forward direction with his hands after contact will be something that can help him be even more consistent with creating backspin and having good ball flight moving forward. Ayden is a player we are really excited about heading into his sophomore year. With time to develop in the weightroom and on the field Ayden is someone that projects very well at the college level.
